5 Daily Habits That Can Improve Your Life as a Busy Mom

Motherhood can make it very easy to put yourself last.

You wake up thinking about what the kids need. What needs to be packed? What's for dinner? Who has an appointment? What needs to be done for work? Is there enough milk? Did I ever respond to that email?

Before you know it, the day is almost over and you've taken care of everyone and everything—but barely checked in with yourself.

I've been thinking more about the small things I can do every single day to improve my life as a mom, wife, woman, and child of God.

Not ten things.

Not an elaborate two-hour routine.

Just a handful of intentional daily habits that help me grow spiritually, physically, financially, mentally, and creatively.

Here are five that I believe can make a meaningful difference in a mom's life.

1. Spend Time with God

Before I pour into everyone else, I need God to pour into me.

This doesn't always have to mean an hour-long Bible study. Some mornings it may be reading a chapter of Scripture. Other mornings it may be ten minutes of prayer, listening to worship music, following a devotional, or journaling.

Jesus said:

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33

I want "seek first" to become more than a Scripture I know. I want it to become the way I live.

When I begin with God, I'm reminded that my identity isn't based on how productive I am, how clean my house is, how much money I make, or whether I got motherhood exactly right that day.

I belong to Him.

And that's a much better place from which to begin my day.

2. Move Your Body

Exercise doesn't have to mean spending an hour in the gym every day.

Walk for twenty minutes.

Stretch.

Dance in your kitchen.

Work your abs.

Lift weights.

Ride a bike with your children.

Go outside and walk around the neighborhood.

Our bodies were created to move, and I've found that movement can change the way I feel mentally as much as physically.

If you're struggling to exercise consistently, I've found that setting the timer for ten minutes or creating an reminder alarm, watching other women exercise or putting it on the calendar helps me to stay motivated and keep up with movement.

The goal is to develop a lifestyle of caring for your body rather than waiting for the perfect workout plan.

3. Do Something That Moves Your Financial Life Forward

I originally thought of this habit as "make money every day."

But I've realized that we won't necessarily earn money every single day.

What we can do is take a small action that improves our financial future.

Maybe you:

  • work on your side hustle for 20 minutes

  • apply for a better-paying job

  • create a digital product

  • write a blog post

  • send an invoice

  • learn a new skill

  • check your budget

  • transfer money to savings

  • pay down debt

  • research an income idea

Some actions may produce money today.

Others may produce money six months from now.

Both matter.

As moms, we spend so much time managing the needs of today that it's easy to forget to build for tomorrow.

Even 15–30 focused minutes a day can add up to more than 90 hours of intentional work in a year.

Imagine what you could build in 90 hours.

4. Get Ready for the Day

This one sound almost too simple.

Get dressed.

When you're home with children or working remotely, it's tempting to stay in pajamas all day. And some days? Absolutely.

As a work-from-home mom, I am learning that this tip is so impactful for mood and productivity. I've noticed that getting ready—even if I'm wearing leggings, a comfortable T-shirt, a little moisturizer and my hair pulled together—changes how I feel.

Take a shower.

Put on the comfortable outfit you love.

Fix your hair.

Spray your favorite perfume.

Tell your brain:

We're awake. We're grateful. And we're showing up for this day.

Comfort and confidence can coexist.

5. Do Something You Absolutely Love

This may be the habit moms forget most often.

Do something that has absolutely nothing to do with being productive.

Something that simply makes you feel alive.

Draw.

Sing.

Garden.

Read.

Write.

Bake.

Sit outside.

Play an instrument.

Take photographs.

Listen to music.

Create something with your hands.

For me, things I enjoy would be drawing and riding my bike. I purchased a bike last year and enjoyed it so much. The kids also had fun riding next to me. For years, I didn't apply this tip, I did whatever I had to do to get through the day and felt little fulfillment from life. I have come to realize that our jobs are not our life and making room for something you love can help you feel more fulfilled, which can also help you return to your family more present instead of constantly depleted.

You don't have to justify everything you enjoy.

And you don't have to wait until your children are grown to rediscover yourself.

You are a mother—but you are also still you.

You Don't Have to Start All Five Tomorrow

If you're reading this thinking, Okay, now I have five more things to add to my list, that's not my intention.

Start with one.

Maybe this week your only goal is spending ten minutes with God every morning.

Once that feels natural, add ten minutes of movement.

Then perhaps you begin spending fifteen minutes on something that could improve your financial future.

Build slowly.

A peaceful life isn't created overnight.

It's cultivated.

Your Daily Five

If you want to keep it really simple, remember:

PRAY — nurture your relationship with God.

MOVE — care for your body.

BUILD — do something for your financial future.

PREPARE — get yourself ready for the day.

ENJOY — make time for something you genuinely love.

A Question for You

What are five things you would love to do every day that you believe would improve your life?

You don't have to choose mine.

Write down your own five and start with just one this week.

I'd also love to hear yours in the comments. Your daily habit might be exactly the idea another mom needs.

🌿 Until Next Time...

May your home be filled with peace, your heart with purpose, and your days with God's abundant grace.

Keep cultivating a peaceful, fruitful life—one ordinary day at a time.

With joy,

Cece
